Greetings

I remember from University days ('tho I've lost the actual references
and the web wasn't invented then!) that the Latin alphabets reading
left to right is why dictionaries, indexes and navigation of any
kind, developed the way they did: generally the reference
(navigation) is on the left and the definition (content) is on the
right. Readers find it easier to go repeatedly from one to the other,
that way round.

If it's the kind of content that visitors will scan rather than read
carefully and the navigation is a short list, I would think right
hand nav would be fine. If the content does need reading in some
depth and the nav list is more than say 6 -7 items, then I'd prefer
to use left hand navigation.

Just my thoughts.

Cheers.
Freda
